The Red Iguana

Friday Theron and I went on a date to Salt Lake City. We had been looking around for Mexican restaurants to eat at when Theron came across The Red Iguana. He looked closer into it and found that it has all sorts of great reviews and won awards for EVERY YEAR since 1997! It serves authentic Mexican food and Pre-Colombian Meso-American food and is best known for its amazing mole sauce. Figuring that The Red Iguana was a good choice for Mexican we headed north. Upon arriving I was a little shocked, figuring it would be a slightly nicer restaurant with a fun Mexican ambient and atmosphere; it looked like a run down hot dog shack. But there was a long line outside the door so I figured it couldn't be too bad. Since we were only two we were able to get a seat right away. Once we got inside it still looked like a hot dog shack with tightly packed tables and chairs, waiters running every which way, families, kids, older folk and middle aged people sitting at all the tables. To make a long story short we both ordered a different type of mole dish, a shrimp appetizer and all of the food there was great down to the courtesy chips and salsa. We were both so stuffed we had to take the rest home and finished it off as leftovers for lunch today (it was still fantastic!). We both highly recommend it for a fun, casual atmosphere and GREAT Mexican food.
